Crate Training

I've had little Lilly for a little over a week now. She drives me crazy, but I love her so much. I've been trying to crate train her since I brought her home. There are so many puppy training guidelines to follow. One behaviorist says this and another says that. It's difficult to know what I'm doing right versus wrong. I want to be the best dog mom I can be. Anyone who has crate trained knows that it is very difficult emotionally. I put her in the little kennel when it's time for bed, but the first few days she cried and yelped endlessly. I felt like crying too. Today, I realized all that work paid off. She played around for an hour or so and eventually tired herself out. Then she drug her little feet into the crate all by herself and plopped down. Good girl! I'm so proud of my little baby. I just had to take a picture. P.S. I'd like to ask for your prayers for my dear friend Sheila who lost her faithful companion, Jake, this past weekend. He was a much loved dog.

She is SOOOO cute! That little bed looks so comfy. I know crate training is hard. The whining can definitely get to you. Glad you worked through it and its paying off for you. what a cutie pie!

Oh My Goodness!! What a CUTIE!!! Love it!! When we brought Winston home (our Papillon)he was instantly trained and it was amazing! After a year and a half...he calls his crate...his HOME!! He loves it. Whenever I move it or whatever...he literally jumps around and acts like he doesn't even know what to do. LOL!!! :o) In the mornings before work...I will take him out...grab a treat...and some of his toys...and when I walk into the bedroom...he is already sitting inside...with a wagging tail waitin on his treat and toys. LOL!! Good Luck!!! It will totally pay off!!!! Hugs to you! Ash~

Stay strong. Trust me it pays off in the end. And I highly recommend watching "The Dog Whisperer", he's really good.

Oh, so sweet! Looks like she's got a very comfortable bed. I'm sorry about your friend's loss. I'm too familiar with how difficult that can be. Sadly, too familar.

Lilly is so sweet! Yes, it is very stressful and frustrating to train a dog, but as you found out, it pays off. So sorry to hear of your friend's loss. My dog's name was also Jake, and he died a month ago. He was 16 1/2 years old; just an amazing dog. I miss him deeply. I'll be sending prayers to your friend.

I just found your blog (after mention of you on SCS) THEN I found this info on your new baby! She is SO cute and you are SO lucky to have her!! We, too, just got a yorkie 3 weeks ago...she is 3 and came from a yorkie rescue so one, not a puppy, and 2, not used to being a pet (she came from a puppy mill!) In 3 *short* weeks, she has learned to be a pet!! (I'm WAY too eager to pamper!!) She, too, yelped all night in her crate, so now she sleeps in a bed NEXT to ours, not IN ours!! and sleeps thru the night...thus, so do I. Good luck with your Lilly Belle, she will bless your life with love and companionship! esther
