Laura,
This would make a beautiful addition to a rock collection. What terrific pictures you are taking. Your dad is saving them all for you.
Take care, be safe.
Love,
Jan

Hi Laura (aka fellow rock person :D),

When I saw this picture I just knew I was going to find your blog a special place to visit.

Discovered your blog today via a comment from your sis on a RAK blog site I also discovered today. Have spent the last hour or so discovering your archive. You have a wicked eye and perspective - ever considered doing photography as a profession? So many of your shots would be perfect for so many magazines and newspapers online or off. You're work has had me zig zagging from laughter to wonder to tears, to empathy, anger and joy and everything in between. The entire gamut of life in one intense location - amazing!

Reminds me a bit of Hawkeye from MASH TV series and the irony of that series mixed with humor, pathos and somewhat concealed anger at times. Weird comparison I know but I'm closer to that generation than yours so it works for me and more a description of how your art affects my soul.

I have to pass your site along to my neice who is also in the army -though still stateside until her baby is just a wee bit older - like you talked about in an earlier post her unit is overseas and she's left at home and hating it -(somehow the PX in Virginia while stocking pregnancy tests managed to run out of birth control measures at a critical time! Hard to imagine a base without at least condoms!).

Thanks for sharing these peeks into life overseas from a soldiers perspective. So many things resonate from time I've spent in Morroco and other places around the world though at least in my case no one was shooting at me!

Not sure I agree that the dolls (further down) are ugly but then I'm into primitive (not to mention finding beauty in rocks and other odd stuff) and after all beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I totally get the rest of your posts though and am looking forward to future installments.

You really should send the shot of the combat parking sign to some of the networks for a picture of the week kind of thing. Really gets me wondering. I keep picturing a battlefield with tanks jockying for parking like at COSTCO. Not really funny I know but it makes you wonder about the logic of the bureaucracy sometimes. Reminds me of some signs I saw on a base in South Carolina - something to the effect of 2 star and above parking only! I thought it was a joke at first! Who knows maybe it was only put out on Family Day to freak the civilians - On the other hand it was an Army base! :D

Take care of yourself and your buds, you're in my prayers. And thanks again for a window on a different world.

- Jean
