You are my Sunshine

My biggest stress right now for going back to work is DAY CARE!  My husband and I are both Soldiers, so he was given ten days of paternity leave and I was given six weeks. After that Ethan has to go into day care. Luckily, we're told the military has a great system. We've looked at other day cares, but no one opens early enough for me to drop him off and get to work at the appointed 0600 hours.  We also never really know what time we're getting off work, so that's another issue with regular places. We put Ethan on the waiting list waaaaaay back in May when I was in my second trimester. I figured that would be more than enough time, but NO! As it turns out, you're not technically on the waiting list until your baby is six weeks old. Keep in mind, you have to go back to work at six weeks postpartum. How is that supposed to work? Oh, and Ethan was born on a Wednesday. They don't take in new babies on Wednesdays. They only admit newbies on Mondays! So that means he can't go to day care until the Monday following six weeks.  Who comes up with this? Does this seem logical to anyone?  Haven't you heard those horror stories about mom's who get arrested for going AWOL because they don't have child care?! Eeek! I really never anticipated that this would be my biggest issue following the birth of a child. Everything else is cake... sorta! :-)
(Look for this card in the March 2011 issue of CARDS magazine!)

This is beautiful! Love your design! Did my email get to you? I wasn't sure, I got some failure info. But I sent two emails. So sorry you have to struggle with that day care thing! And that you have to go back to work this soon! I wouldn't have been able to do this after six weeks only. Don't you suffer from sleep deprivation?? I felt like a sleepwalker all the time. Good luck with the day care, keeping my fingers crossed! Vanessa x

Laura,
Gosh so much has happened to you since I last checked your blog.. I am so thrilled to see your bundle of joy has arrived safely. I wish him a lifetime of joy and being surrounded by those who love him most. Being the mom of two boys (older 19, 16) I can't tell what unimaginable joy they will bring to your life and how much your heart will swell with pride when they begin to accomplish amazing things. I had one of those moments last night and it brought me to tears. So did little Ethan Air Assault his way out at BACH? I used to work in the MBU there taking pics of the newborns.. Blessings and congratulations to you all!

UHHH, day care! I have been a stay at home mom for almost 10 years because of that day care! We have struggled and stress out over it too, until I just said I couldn't handle it any longer. I know that you don't have that option at this point but maybe one day you will. Until then I wish you the best of luck with this dilemma. BTW, I love the card!

Those day care rules are crazy! Is there a loving Grandma near by? Everything will work out, just fine, stressing is just part of it. Great card, Laura, I lve the text panel!

This is very pretty. So sorry you have to struggle with the daycare issue, glad your baby arrived, but boy that would be hard leaving him in daycare at six weeks. Best wishes to you.

I don't envy you the daycare problem. I know that when I put my oldest in an Air Force daycare in MS, it was fantastic. I am so glad you shared this dilemma (not that you actually have to put up with it). Another way that soldiers sacrifice in the service to this country! Thanks for all that your family gives.
